Our Story

We wanted to make a change: leave our careers behind us and live our dream of running our own hotel – surrounded by mountains and a lake. Which is how we – Aunt Christl, Margarethe and Simone – ended up moving to the Tegernsee Valley in 2001. There, the Hotel Sapplfeld was looking for a new owner – and even though it may not have looked like it back then, we knew immediately: This was going to be our own little piece of paradise.

We got rolling with boundless energy: Margarethe as the gastronomy pro, Simone with her business savvy and Aunt Christl with the necessary capital and a clear vision: The Landhaus was going to be called “am Stein” as a nod to our previous home address near Frankfurt.

And so our dream came true: We refurbished the hotel and brought together an outstanding team. We attracted amazing guests – and our happy years in Bad Wiessee commenced. In 2010 we opened our second hotel, the Christl am See, another particularly idyllic little address with 13 guest rooms.

Viktor joined the team and served as the host until 2021. Today, Olivia Höfling and her family have breathed new life into the Christl and now run the small lakeside country house with great individuality. The newest addition, since 2018, is her brother Maximilian, who supplies us with his premium natural cosmetics line LediBelle from Switzerland.

This is how two very personal hotels came about, each one highly personalized, open-minded and brimming with joy – with extraordinary guests and team members, all of whom come together to form a great big family. The essence of this family is connection, passion and the most positive of spirits – for a life worth living in openhearted community.
